Flamethrower vs. Liberty Safe

Flamethrower vs. Liberty Safe

Boys and Their Toys (2:45)

We just wanted to have some fun and see if we could destroy a Liberty Safe with a flamethrower filled with napalm. Watch the video to see how the safe holds up.

The Results

As you can see in the video, we torched the Liberty Safe and the outside was discolored by the end. But, when we opened it up, the inside of the safe was as pristine as it was on the factory floor.

We even ran the safe over with a Sherp for good measure, and nothing happened. So, if that doesn’t show how durable a Liberty Safe is, we don’t know what will! (Okay, we do have a few more tests that will show you the capability of these incredible safes.)

What Gives Liberty Safes Their Fire Protection Features?

We want to walk you through our safes’ fire protection features to show you exactly the protection that you get with a Liberty Safe.

Safe Design

The fire protection of a Liberty Safe is more than just fire-specific features like fireboards and heat seals. Our safe design plays a huge role in its performance during a fire.

Safe Body

Our two-piece safe body construction ensures that the safe will stand in place during a fire and that the walls won’t fall down. Because most everything is interlocked and not welded as individual pieces, there are fewer weak points for the heat to warp the safe.

Locking Bars

Our locking bar system was designed to help prevent pry attacks, but they are also an added fire protection feature. We have more door locking bars on the sides of the door for security, and these additional bars also help hold the door in place and keep it from warping when the heat seal expands, keeping the door sealed longer and tighter.

Another feature of our safe doors is that we include door adjusters for each safe so that you can tighten the safe door once it reaches its final resting place. A tight door will help the safe perform better in the event of a fire.

Fireboards

Fireboards are a crucial part of fire protection in any home or gun safe. The more fireboard layers a safe has, the better fire rating it receives. But, a safe’s fire rating is only as good as its weakest link.

For fireboard to perform well in a safe, it has to have balanced layers in the four key areas of the safe:

  1. Ceiling
  2. Walls
  3. Doorjambs
  4. Door

If one of these areas has fewer layers of fireboard protection, that will be the area that determines the overall fire rating of the safe and the potential weak point.

We make our fireboards are balanced throughout the safe. Our state-of-the-art water-jet technology cuts the fireboard layers to fit just right in all of the places that we need. Our staff will glue the fireboard together and into the safe, and each safe is inspected multiple times to ensure top quality.

Palusol™ Heat Seal

Palusol™ is a heat seal that we install on all of our safes. It is the best heat seal on the market, and you deserve the best.

Palusol™ works by expanding to 7 times its size when it reaches a temperature of 212 degrees Fahrenheit. It helps to lock out heat and smoke and keep the cool air in the safe for a more temperature-controlled environment to protect your belongings inside.

What Happens to a Liberty Safe When Fire Strikes?

Now, let’s talk about how each of these fire protection features comes into play when a fire strikes. You can also watch this video for a visual explanation.

Let’s say a fire starts in a room at 70 degrees Fareheit, but as the fire grows, the temperature can reach over 1200 degrees within 10 minutes.

The steel body of the safe takes the initial brunt of the heat, but when the temperature reaches 212 degrees, that’s when the Palusol™ door seal expands to 7 times its size and seals the door so cooler air can't escape and the heat and smoke can't get in.

At the same time, the molecules inside the fireboard release a cooling effect to keep the temperature down. This is also when the addtional door bolts come into play, helping to keep the door from warping and holding it tight against the expanded door seal.

We have seen several survival stories of how Liberty Safes were the last thing standing in the event of a home or wildfire. Watch for yourself how these safes hold up in real house fire.

Always the Best Protection

At Liberty Safe, we want you to know exactly the protection that you are getting. For each of our safes, we show you the total number of layers of fireboard in each safe, how thick the steel is, use only the best fire seal, and install more bolt to keep the door tighter.

No other safe company does what we do to protect valuables from fire.
